111. Show a Heart for Stud Duties in Queensland

12/02/2002

Show A Heart, one of Queensland’s best racehorses, will stand at stud next year.

The gallant chestnut horse is a triple Group 1 winner, and will be available to broodmare owners at Glenlogan Park Stud at Beaudesert. The horse has been a Stakes Winner in the best company as a two, three and four year old, winning those prestigious Group 1 races- the T.J, Smith Stakes, the Caulfield Guineas and the Toorak Handicap in successive years.

Now a four year old, Show A Heart is an extremely versatile horse. In addition to proving himself a crack miler, he has also been placed in the the premier sprints, the VRC Newmarket and the Oakleigh Plate.

Queensland salutes the owners of Show A Heart, Ross and Judy Cutts, who have shown their support for the Queensland industry by standing the son of Brave Warrior in their home state.

110. Black Type Performance by Son of Celestial Dancer

  12/02/2002

Lyndhurst Stud has been a leader in the Queensland breeding industry for decades. The stud’s ageless sire CELESTIAL DANCER was represented by a Group 3 placegetter at Flemington on Saturday when Road To Dance finished third in the 1600 metre Carbine Club Stakes for three year olds.

This lightly raced colt has won twice in seven starts and was beaten only a length and a short half-head in this feature race. He could be yet another Group winner for Queensland during the Spring Carnival.

109. Sequalo to be a Slick Operator

12/02/2002

Hardly a week goes by then one of the progeny of the Lyndhurst Stud sire SEQUALO does not salute the judge,

This former very fast racehorse was something of a quiet achiever with his first crop, but now they are really starting to race! They are winning at two and three years all over the state.

Sequalo came to Queensland with a reputation for honesty and breathtaking speed. The son of Rustic Amber had won over $800,000 in stakes, including the Group 2 Moir Stakes, when he ran a course record for 1000 metres at Moonee Valley. He raced in the best company and in 40 starts, won 10 and was placed 13 times, a majority of these performances coming in Black Type races.

108. Changes to the Super QRIS Sale & Race Series

12/02/2002

There has been quite a bit of press with respect to the changes in recent months to the Super QRIS Yearling Sale and the Super QRIS Race Series. These were formerly known as the Superbowl Sale which was conducted by the Magic Millions Sales Company in early March each year, and the Superbowl and Minibowl series of races conducted in the early part of the new calendar year throughout the State with the Superbowl finals conducted at the Gold Coast Turf Club on the same weekend as the Superbowl Sale.

Despite the press reporting there remains a certain level of confusion surrounding both the sale and the race series. This has been evident by the volume of inquiry received at the Super QRIS office over the succeeding months. Having said that, the changes have been born out of pleasant surprise with the race series open to all Super QRIS registered 2 year olds in 2002, with know additional payup required to compete for the considerable amount of prizemoney on offer.

To allay the confusion and reiterate these changes a summary of the revised sale and race series follows:

  • The New Super QRIS Race Series

  • Changes to the Superbowl Race Series

  • The race series finals will now be known as "The Super QRIS Racing Championships"

  • There is no pay-up to compete in the series

  • Only Super QRIS registered horses will be eligible to compete

  • The "Championship Finals" will be held at the Queensland Turf Club, Eagle Farm Racecourse Saturday 2 March 2002

  • 2 divisions for Super QRIS registered 2-year-olds only, colts and geldings, and fillies

  • The guaranteed minimum prizemoney will be $150,000 for each division of the final championships

  • Quality handicap conditions, maximum weight 59kg, minimum weight 52kg, apprentices cannot claim

  • Field sizes 16 plus 4 emergencies

  • Nominations to close Monday 25 February 2002. Nomination fee $55

  • Acceptance fee $990

Championship qualifying races will be conducted at various provincials racing clubs replacing the "Minibowls". Details of these races are in course of finalization with complete details to be advised shortly.
