It’s
difficult to think of superlatives to add to those already piled on this
horse! His record for the 1999/2000 season stands at:
188
runners; 108 winners of 203 races; prizemoney earned $8,012,915.
Danehill’s
Group One winners during the season were BLACKFRIARS (Victoria Derby)
and REDOUTE’S CHOICE (Manikato Stakes, Caulfield Guineas & C F
Orr Stakes. Other black type winners during the season were COMMANDS,
CROWNED GLORY, HAPPY MORNING, KING OF DANES, MANNINGTON, ROSE O’WAR,
ROSE OF DANE, ROYAL VOYAGE, SPRINGSTEEN, SPYING, TENNESSEE MIDNIGHT, THE
GOLDEN DANE and WATERFORD ROAD.
He
has won 4 General Sires premierships and 5 2YO sire titles
in his first 7 seasons at stud.
Danehill’s
lifetime sire statistics in the southern hemisphere, for seven crops of
racing age, now stand at 240 winners of 800 races and record earnings of
$45,151,466. World-wide he now has more than 132 stakeswinners.
Danehill
is responsible for the internationalisation of the Australian
thoroughbred. An illustration of his influence can be observed from the
last Easter Yearling sale when income from his progeny and that of his
sons accounted for approximately 23 million dollars.

Champion
NSW-based First Season Sire
1999/2000
With
Danehill proving himself as a successful sire of sires as well as champion
sire, it is fitting that the dual titles of Australian and NSW First
Season Sire for 1999/2000 should go to his Golden Slipper-winning son
FLYING SPUR.

With
37 runners and 14 winners of 22 races during the season, FLYING SPUR’s
progeny earned $1,756,650 in prizemoney.

Australian
Broodmare of the Year
1999/2000
NSW
Broodmare of the Year
1999/2000
It
was a great pleasure to present this award to a member of our association
who comes from a family background that has been responsible for shaping
the breed of the Australian bloodhorse due to the deeds of her father, the
late Stanley Wootton who, in an amazing partnership with A O Ellison
provided us with Star Kingdom, Todman, Biscay, Bletchingly, winners
of 20 General or 2YO Champion titles..
Bred
by Mrs Catherine Remond, TWIGLET won 5 races including the prestiigious
Group Two VRC Edward Manifold Stakes and the Listed AJC Reginald Allen
Handicap and Tatt’s Club Furious Stakes. She is by successful sire and
broodmare sire TWIG MOSS(Fr) out of the good Bletchingly racemare
Extradite .
Dam
of international Group One Winner FAIRY KING PRAWN, an Easter Yearling
Sale graduate in 1997 being sold for $170,000 to Asian Bloodstock Services
and winner of almost $5 million prizemoney and Group One races in Hong
Kong and Japan. A horse of international renown advancing the Australian
bloodstock industry who is creating new markets for our horses.
She
is also the dam of EASY ROCKING which in the 1999/2000 season won three
races including the Group Two AJC Challenge Stakes and STC Canterbury
Stakes and the Group Three Roman Consul Stakes and fulfilled his true
potential winning at Group One level this season. Appropriately Easy
Rocking has now retired to stud and will stand the forthcoming season at
Gary Turkington’s Wattle Brae Stud in Queensland.
