David Hayes still holds the lead in the Hong Kong Trainer’s Ranking for the current season up to the race meeting on 26 December. He is four wins clear of K W Lui. From a total of 220 runners, David has recorded 25 wins, 24 seconds, 12 thirds, 19 fourths and 20 fifths. Meanwhile John Size has continued to impress in his first season in Hong Kong. John is currently 10th in the Trainer’s ranking with 13 winners, 7 seconds, 11 thirds, 6 fourths and 6 fifths from only 57 runners.
D Whyte is still in the top position of the Jockey’s Ranking with 32 wins, 31 seconds, 20 thirds, 23 fourths and 18 fifths from 203 rides. Shane Dye is in third position (only one win off second placed Felix Coetzee) with 22 wins, 17 seconds, 17 thirds, 18 fourths and 12 fifths from 199 rides. Dwayne Dunn has moved to 6th place with 15 winners and Steven King is in 11th position with 11 winners.
Overbrook Farm has announced that Storm Cat will stand the 2002 season for US$500,000. Storm Cat stood the 2001 season for US$400,000 and he currently ranks 7th on the general sire list with US$3.5 million in progeny earnings. Storm Cat’s popularity was never more evident that at the summer yearling sales when nine yearlings sold for an average of US$1,733,333.
