Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria presented their annual stallion awards for the 2000-2001 season during a cocktail party at Moonee Valley racecourse on Saturday. The awards were well attended and incorporated a number of key industry people including Doug Reid, Brendan McCarthy and Kerry Gillespie.

The John Ingleton Memorial Award for Leading Stallion was presented to Archway who stands at Baree Stud. Archway is arguably one of Victoria’s most consistent and under rated sires, whose list of winners includes the super impressive Grand Archway, Go Flash Go and Rose Archway.

The TBV Inside Racing Leading First Season Sire award went to exciting newcomer Encosta De Lago. Graeme Campbell of Blue Gum Farm received the award on behalf of the stud who also stand last years Leading sire award winner, Umatilla.

The Super Vobis Leading 2YO Sire award went to Rory’s Jester, Collingrove Studs foundation sire noted for his flying youngsters. Adam Sangster was delighted to receive the award and pointed out that Rory’s Jester might dominate the spring with his champion-in-the-making North Boy.

TBV Leading Broodmare Sire went to the now deceased Century who stood at Mornmoot Stud. Century is the broodmare sire of the impressive Dolphin Street mare Spinning Hill, whose prizemoney now totals over $780,000.

Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria also took the opportunity to draw their stallion nomination raffle with prizes totaling over $35,000. TBV’s President Mike Becker announced all proceeds from the raffle would go towards the marketing and promotion of the Melbourne Premier Sale.

Incredibly, Richard Sims, the advertising guru of Winning Post had two entries drawn, and consequently won services to Festival Hall and Dolphin Street, to a combined value of $11,000. Richard is on holiday in Ireland, but has been informed of his good fortune.

Geoff Dodson from Kaniva won the Brief Truce nomination valued at $13,200. Geoff raced the handy stayer Double Gin. Garth Grainger from Koo Wee Rup won the Dangerous nomination valued at $6,600, the last nomination available for the stallion this season as his book is completely full.
