TBA To Establish Fighting Fund

THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS AUSTRALIA will establish a special fund for the specific purpose of providing assistance to the proprietors of Eureka Stud in the Darling Downs, Queensland, Australia so that the proprietors can mount the best possible defence against the damages claim against them in relation to the tragic death of the stallion Brave Warrior.

The establishment of the fund is endorsed by State Breeding Associations throughout Australia and pledges of financial assistance will be sought from all participants in the breeding, racing and associated industries. Already indications of support have come from many breeders, trainers, horse float companies and racing bodies.

There is overwhelming support within the industry for the proprietors of the Eureka Stud, the McAlpine family who have enjoyed an outstanding national and international reputation in the thoroughbred breeding industry for decades. There is rejection within the industry that damages can be calculated on the basis of forward earnings. The TBA believes that everyone who has had experience in the breeding industry should be aware that the odds of continuing success of a stallion or a brood mare are very long indeed and that accidents to thoroughbreds are a most unfortunate but common occurrence.
