 73. Tragic Deaths Force Dispersal Sales

25/08/2002

Two tragic deaths, one equine and one human, will see the dispersal sale of some prime bloodstock in the coming months in the U.S.

The death of Prince Ahmed bin Salman at the age of 43 on July 2 will see a reduction of approximately 100 horses from Salman’s Thoroughbred Corp.

"It’s time sensitive because we want to sell some yearlings at Keeneland next month," Mulhall told Daily Racing Form.

"We’ve sold some yearlings every year. This was a plan even before the Prince died. We just have too many horses. We're up around the high 300s. We need to sell 100 by the end of the year."

Karen and Mickey Taylor, part owners of the Triple Crown Champion Seattle Slew who died on May 7, will disperse all of their Thoroughbred holdings, beginning at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
According to a report in the Blood-Horse the dispersal is expected to occur over a two-year period. Four foals by Seattle Slew, 10 mares, an additional foal, one yearling, and several horses of racing age will be included in the first phase of the dispersal in November
