 7. First Winner For Favorite Trick

01/08/2002

Former U.S. Horse Of The Year Favorite Trick, which shuttles from Walmac International, Kentucky to Collingrove Stud, Victoria, sired his first winner on Wednesday when two-year old colt Favorite One was successful in a maiden at Laurel Park.

FAVORITE TRICK
Favorite Trick became the first two-year old to win the Horse of the Year title since Secretariat achieved the feat 25 years earlier. Undefeated in 8 starts at two, Favorite Trick’s wins included the Saratoga Special S. (G2), Hopeful S. (G1), Breeders' Futurity (G2) and culminating in a decisive win in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). Favorite Trick started a further 8 times at three winning 4 stakes races including the Keeneland Breeders' Cup Mile (G2), Jim Dandy S. (G2), Swale S. (G3).

An $8,000 purchase at the 2001 Keeneland Sale, Favorite One is a son of the stakes-placed Black Tie Affair mare Prissy One. Favorite One has an interesting pedigree, as his dam Prissy One is a daughter of the Roberto mare Mistress Glendower who is in turn a daughter of Clever Raise (Raise A Native), a half sister to Clever Trick (Icecapade) the sire of Favorite Trick’s sire Phone Trick.

Favorite Trick will cover his third book of mares at Collingrove Stud this spring for a fee of $22,000 (inc GST).
