The
2002 August Thoroughbred Sale was held at the Oaklands Complex in Victoria today
with 174 mixed lots achieving an overall gross of $830,950. Buyers from
throughout Australia were in attendance, resulting in good competition and a
solid clearance rate of 90%.
The top priced offering came early in the day when Lot 53, the well performed
mare Chalet Amis was knocked down for $70,000 to William Inglis as agent, on
behalf of a New South Wales based client. Chalet Amis, a winner of more than
$150,000 in prizemoney, is by Kenny’s Best Pal from the family of former star
juvenile filly Love a Show, winner of the VATC Blue Diamond Stakes Gr 1.
Well related broodmare Ishkarina (Lot 45) also found favour with the market,
going to the bid of local stud Northern Lodge for $40,000. The seven year old
mare is by Bellotto (USA) from Argentinian Group One winner Ishkra (Arg) and
boasted a positive service to popular young stallion Danehill Dancer (IRE), the
sire of top class galloper Choisir.
Baramul Stud were active today, collecting six young mares for a total of
$121,000. Their most expensive purchase being $30,000 for What Women Want (Lot
153 ), an unraced three year old filly by Spinning World (USA) from
stakes-winner Lilting. The nicely bred miss is a half-sister to Group Two
winning sprinter Honour the Name.
The next mixed sale on the William Inglis calendar will be the Spring
Thoroughbred Sale in Sydney on Friday September 20th, featuring quality
racemares Nanny Maroon and Dolce Veloce, along with an exciting dispersal of
broodmares from Hilton Cope’s Kelvinside Stud.
Catalogues are now available for the 2002 Australian 2YO Breeze Up Sale to be
held in Sydney on September 27th. Timed breeze up sessions will be held at
Flemington on September 6th and Royal Randwick on September 9th. Videotapes and
