Tattersall's Houghton Sale; 2003 Magic Millions Entries; Keeneland Septemeber Sale; South Island 2YO Sale4; NZ Spring Bloodstock Sale.
* THE 2002 Tattersalls Houghton Yearling Sale, Europe’s premier yearling auction, will be held on October 2 and 3 with a slect 193 lots in the catalogue.
The catalogue features full or half brothers and sisters to 37 Classic or Group 1 winners and an extraordinary 142 Group or Listed winners.
Among the colts are the Nashwan half brother to the Irish Guineas winners Barathea and Gossamer; the Sadler’s Wells colt from Free At Last, a G3 winning half sister to that same classic pair; a Selkirk half brother to dual Dubai Champion Stakes winner Alborada; a Mark Of Esteem half brother to Kayf Tara and Opera House; and Machiavellian colts out of G1 winner One SO Wonderful and G2 winner Bella Colora.
The fillies include the Sadler’s Wells half sister to the G1 winners Sleepytime, Ali Royale and Tapain; a Danehill half sister to Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Sagamix and G1 winning 2YO Sagacity; The first foal from G2 Ribblesdale Stakes winner Fairy Queen by Seeking The Gold; the Sadler’s Wells first foal out of Aspen Leaves, a winning daughter of the legendary broodmare Fall Aspen, dam of five G1 winners and granddam of late champion Dubai Millenium.
Sadler’s Wells has a total of 34 yearlings in the catalogue, Machiavellian has (13); Rainbow Quest (12) and Danehill (10).
The US influence is strong through yearlings by Storm Cat, Danzig, Diesis, Kingmambo, Kris S, Rahy and Seeking The Gold.
* THE 2003 Magic Million Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast has attracted relations to the best two and three-year-olds in Australia.
The entries include relations to Victory Vein, Bel Esprit, Calaway Gal, Snowland, Ha Ha and Carnegie Express.
Other impressive entries sure to create interest include relations to top sires Zabeel and Baryshnikov, and Brave Warrior and G1 winners Keeper, Akhenaton, Cannsea and Al Mansour.
Early entries also include the progeny of G1 winners Isca, Isolda and multiople Group winning mare Beachside.
* A total of 4367 yearlings have been cataloged for the
Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
The 12-day auction begins on September 9 with one day layday on September 13 befoire its conclusion on September 21.
Sires represented include Storm Cat (20 lots); A.P. Indy (31), Deputy Minister (35), Dixieland Band (45), Gone West (20), Kingmambo (38), Saint Ballado (48), Seeking the Gold (23), Theatrical (Ire) (32), Unbridled (22), Unbridled's Song (53) and Wild Again (26).
The first season sires include Charismatic (48), Exploit (45), Forestry (44), Horse Chestnut (16), Silver Charm (36), Stravinsky (40), Artax (14), Old Trieste (23) and Victory Gallop (43).
Last year’s September Sale saw 2895 horses sold for an aggregate of $US254,190,600, at an average of $US87,803.
* NEW Zealand has a busy sale schedule coming up, beginning with the South Island 2YO and Mixed Bloodstock Sale in Christchurch on August 9.
This is the South Island’s major sale and will attract buyers from Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
The 2YO section includes 17 lots by exciting South Island-based
Storm Cat stallion Felix the Cat and nine by White Robe Lodge’s resident Personal Escort, two stallions certain to appeal to Asian buyers.
Other top sires include Volskraad, Al Akbar, Anziyan, Bahhare, Bijou d’Inde, Daggers Drawn, Danasinga, Danske, Danzero, Gold Brose, Grosvenor, Kingfisher Mill, Pentire, Sandtrap, Stark South, Towkay and Woodborough.
* THE NZ Spring Bloodtsock Sale will be held at Karaka on August 18.
The Spring Bloodstock Sale has proved a very successful source of broodmares with the dams of dual G1 winner Final Destination and top class winner Society Beau both purchased at this auction.
Over 100 broodmares are entered by Align, Almutawakel, Anziyan, Bahhare, Cape Cross, Carnegie, Chief Bearhart, Cullen, Danasinga, Danske, Deputy Governor, Elnadim, Faltaat, Fasliyev, Generous, Germano, Kingfisher Mill, Langfuhr, O’Reilly, Orpen, Pins, Singspiel, Stravinsky and Towkay.
The sale will be rounded out with a selection of yearlings, 2YOs, untried horses, racehorses and stallion shares.
