Newcastle owner-breeder Ken Delforce is excited about the first progeny of his young sire Sedaka, a Danehill half brother to super colt Lonhro.
The early runners by Sedaka have shown natural talent and have cemented his future at Delforce’s Kendel Park Stud at Willow Tree in north-west NSW.
Delforce’s confidence in Sedaka was boosted when the first crop filly Daka’s Handout made an impressive debut at Taree on August 6., winning over1000 metres in class record time of 58.96.
Daka’s Handout is the second winner in less than a month for Sedaka after the Cessnock win on July 9 by Dakaflight. Both horses are bred, owned and trained by Delforce.
Sedaka had restricted opportunity with his first crop two-year-olds last season but they also included Roadaka, a winner at Tamworth and twice placed in Sydney. Roadaka won a trial at Muswellbrook by an awesome twelve lengths.
Delforce has his own training complex including a track at Mount Hutton near Newcastle and has a dozen horses in work including progeny of Sedaka.
Sedaka is a product of the mating of Danehill with Lonhro’s dam Shadea, a daughter of the Mr Prospector sire Straight Strike.
Shadea won the G2 Sweet Embrace Stakes and was runner up in the G1 AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes and G1 Champagne Stakes as a two-year-old.
At the end of her short racing career she was purchased by Woodlands Stud and is due to have her fourth foal by Lonhro’s sire Octagonal in October.
Delforce is also standing former high class Star Watch two-year-old Pauillac at Kendel Park Stud.
Paulliac, formerly standing at Stratheden Stud at Tamworth, is the sire of winners in Sydney, Brisbane, Hong Kong and Malayasia.
Delforce has added considerably to his broodmare band in the past two years and now owns over 60 mares.
