 25. Unbridled’s Song Filly Tops Saratoga Opener

06/08/2002

On the opening day of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale, buyers have once again demonstrated their affection for the former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Unbridled’s Song. The days top price of $750,000 was paid by Bob & Beverly Lewis for a filly by the former Breeders Cup Juvenile winner out of the Mt. Livermore mare Dreamscape, a full sister to champion sprinter and former N.Z based shuttle stallion Housebuster.

UNBRIDLED"S SONG
The Lewis’s are obviously enamored by the progeny of Unbridled’s Song as they paid a sales-topping $700,000 at the Fasig-Tipton July Selected Yearling sale for a half-brother to graded stakes winner Da Devil.
Unbridled’s Song also had a filly out of Grade 3 winner Haunting (Kris S) sell for $200,000 and a colt out of Incircle Miss (Dayjur) that made $235,000.

A half brother to stakes winners Tuzia (Blushing John) and Tanja (Allen’s Prospect) by A.P. Indy out of the stakes-winning Magesterial mare Fleet Road was the days second top price at $700,000.

A colt by Grand Slam out of Heartful Star (Star de Naskra) consigned by Dromoland/Hartwell, Agent sold for $600,00 while a colt by Kingmambo out of the stakes winning Housebuster mare Clandestine Caller sold for $575,000. A filly by one season N.Z. shuttle stallion Tale of the Cat out of Doppio Espresso (Java Gold) was another Bob and Beverly Lewis purchase for $500,000.

Just 46 yearlings sold at the opening session for a gross of $11,112,000, down from last year when 58 brought $17,725,000. The average price of $241,565 was down 21 percent from the $305,603 averaged at the opening session last year. One in every three yearlings offered failed to find a new home, a buyback rate of 32 percent.
The sale continues tomorrow.
