Filante, one of the fastest 'milers' ever seen in Sydney, looks to have a very good prospect for next November's Victoria Oaks in Macedon Lady, an impressive winner over1730 metres at Flemington on July 31. It was the third win in succession for the John Symons trained filly.

Through her two-year-old season this representative of the first crop of the Widden Stud based Filante ran five times and followed a close second at Benalla in June with wins in July at Seymour, Sandown and then Flemington, coming home strongly on each occasion.

Her sire Filante, a son of Star Way and the Sir Tristram Queensland Oaks placed Eau d'Etoile, was one of the best Australian racehorses of his time, winning seven races and picking up prize money in at least a dozen Group1 events including seconds in two Cox Plates, one of them taken out by Saintly in course record time.

Filante won two Group1 races including the AJC Epsom Handicap in course record time. He also took out the Group 2 AJC Warwick Stakes on two occasions, following up a class record run in the race in1996 with a new course best for the1400 metres the following year.

His first crop daughter Macedon Lady was bred by Mr & Mrs W.E. Stearn of Murrurundi and P.L. Cook and sold through Kerrie Tibbey's Goodwood Farm for $22,000 at the 2001 Sydney Classic sale. She is from Boo Ticket, a daughter of Brave Warrior's sire Cossack Warrior and the Balmerino mare Tikitiboo.

Cranky Tikit, a half-sister by the Biscay grandson Groucho, won16 races in Western Australia, among them six stakes events including the Group 2 Winterbottom Stakes. In addition Cooky Tikit, a handsome unraced three-quarter brother by Canny Lad to Macedon Lady's dam, stands on a fee of $1650 at the Kurrinda Stud near Gungal between Denman and Merriwa in the Hunter Valley.
