 46. Huge sales in Sydney and Auckland

Nearly 2000 horses including some1400 mares and 700 weanlings are to be offered at sales in Sydney and Auckland in the first two weeks of May.Opening the selling will be the holding at the Newmarket stables,Randwick on May 3 of the William Inglis & Son Australian Select Weanling sale.

It has attracted and entry of 320 lots including offspring of such fashionable sires as Danehill, Danehill Dancer, Flying Spur, Canny Lad, Octagonal, Zeditave, Strategic, Snippets, Grand Lodge, Hennessy, Desert King, End Sweep, Catbird, Fuji Kiseki, Nureyev, Redoute's Choice, Thunder Gulch, Timber Country, Xaar, Spectrum, Shovhog, Real Quiet, Secret Savings and Langfuhr, to mention a few of the 96 sires represented.

Scheduled to follow the the weanling sale at the Newmarket complex on May 5, 6 and 7 is the elite annual Australian Broodmare Sale.The catalogue of 826 lots is to once agan to provide breeders with the opportunity to acquire some of the best quality broodmares in Australia. Among them are over one hundred northern hemisphere bred mares including daughters of such noted sires as Mr Prospector, Danzig, His Majesty, Danehill, Storm Bird, Royal Academy, Secretariat, Ahonoora, Blushing Groom, Alydar, Sadler's Wells, Gulch, Forli, Affirmed, Riverman, Unbridled, Fappiano, Seattle Slew, Mill Reef, Miswaki and Be My Guest.

All told Danehill has eighteen mares in the catalogue, while other prominent sires represented include Zabeel (12), Rory's Jester (15), Sir Tristram (14), Marscay (11), Barathea (9), Bluebird (11), Kenmare (8), Marauding (9), Snippets (9) and Twig Moss (9).

Two of the biggest vendors at the sale are to be the international groups Vinery (54 lots) and Coolmore (48), while other big drafts are being submitted through Woodlands (35 lots for clients), Yarraman Park (31), Arrowfield (25), Eliza Park (23), Ballymore Thoroughbreds (21), Widden Stud (19) and Murrulla Stud (18).

The New Zealand sale is set down for May 12,13 and 14 and the catalogue of 808 lots includes broodmares, weanlings, yearlings, two-year-olds, other racing stock and stallion shares.

The biggest drawcard for Australian buyers is likely to be the 378 weanlings and over 300 mares.The latter also include daughters of Zabeel, Sir Tristram, Danehill and Marscay, while sires of weanlings include Carnegie, Centaine, Danasinga, Jetball, O'Reilly, Senor Pete, Oregon, Pentire, Prized, Star Way, Spinning World and Volksraad,
