The South Australian Breeders' Incentive Scheme (SABIS) may pay its 5 millionth bonus dollar at Balaklava tomorrow. SABIS has blazed a trail of success for South Australian Racing following the establishment of the scheme in 1996.

To Saturday April 13, SABIS bonuses of $4,993,275 have been paid to the connections of qualified horses throughout South Australia with a number of Group Race Breeders' Super Bonuses also being paid for performances in other States of Australia. The first SABIS race was run at Victoria Park on Saturday September 13, 1997.

In all 1,379 SABIS bonus races have been hosted by every club in South Australia. 

Those races have yielded 619 SABIS first placings, 611 seconds and 608 thirds.

With the rise in bonuses to new levels for the 2000 foal crop (yearlings that turn 2 on August 1, 2002) the $10 million may be closer than you think.

SABIS ACCEPTS RECORD NUMBERS

In other news, entries have now closed for SABIS Edition VI (foals born in 2000).

Each year nominations are taken to October 31, with Late Entries closing on March 31 the following year.

A record number of nominations have been received. This foal crop, who turn two on August 1, 2002 are preparing to compete for the following bonuses:-
Level 1 bonuses (Generally Metropolitan Saturdays) rise to $15,000 from $12,000,
Level 2 bonuses (Generally Provincial Wednesdays) rise to $6,500 from $5,000,
Level 3 bonuses (Generally Country-TAB meetings) rise to $4,000 from $3,000,
Level 4 bonuses (Non-TAB meetings) remain at $2,000 (rise awarded 1-8-1999),
Level 5 bonuses (Breeder Super Bonuses ) of up to $10,000 remain unchanged.

So, as we are now accustomed to saying in SA through careful planning…."the best is yet to come".
