 42. Spinning Worlds Classic Hopes

18/04/2002

King Of Happiness, a member of shuttle sire Spinning World’s first northern hemisphere crop, is challenging for 2000 Guineas favoritism after maintaining his unbeaten record in the G3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket on April 18.

Bookmakers cut the price of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt to as short as 3/1 second favourite for the first of the English classics behind the Sadler’s Wells colt Hawk Wing.

Spinning World, brilliant winner of the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Breeders' Cup Mile in 1997, has another leading 2,000 Guineas contender in Tendulkar.

King Of Happiness won his only previous start as a two-year-old and with Tendulkar will be striving to give Stoute his sixth 2000 Guineas win and his third in succession.

Spinning World began his Australian stud tour in 1998 and stood one season in New Zealand in 2000. Last spring he was a resident at Coolmore Stud in NSW.

King Of Happiness, out of the Nijinsky mare Mystery Rays, is the fifth stakeswinner and second Group winner Spinning Hill has produced from his first NH crop. His first Australian two-year-olds include the recent stakeswinner Cyberiad and Coupe.
