 39. Welcome back Royal Academy, goodbye Woodman.

16/04/2002

With eight individual stakeswinners this season, Royal Academy is returning to Coolmore Australia for the 2002 breeding season.

Royal Academy was sent to Brazil in 2000 after spending six seasons in Australia. The son of Nijinsky will not be short of female company after success on the race track with victories from Bel Esprit, winner of the G1 Blue Diamond, and G2 winners Prince of War, Quays, Tears Royal and Phoenix Park. Coolmore will announce his 2002 fee next week.

Woodman, who shared Jerrys Plains turf with Danehill for a number of years, is about to find out what life in Brazil is like. He is shifting to TNT Stud for his first southern hemisphere stint. Woodman's fifth Australian crop is due this spring, but despite having stakeswinners like Sheraton, Golden Fawn and Taimana, Coolmore have determined Brazil will be more suitable.

Brazilian broodmare owners will welcome a stallion like Woodman, with progeny earnings of $US70 million still place him among the world's leading stallions.
