The 2002 Easter Thoroughbred Sale attracted a good crowd at Newmarket today with 101 mixed lots selling for a gross of $634,600, at an average price of $6,283. The sale was well up on last year, the gross climbing by 83% for a most pleasing result.

Red Star Thoroughbreds paid $40,000 to secure Lot 39, Regal Prospect (NZ), the highest priced lot in the broodmare section. She is a stakes-placed half-sister to stakes performers Regal Strike, Regency and King's Ransom, and comes with the added incentive of a positive test to Choisir's sire Danehill Dancer (IRE).

Also popular among the broodmares was Lot 21, Blue Ibis, a winning half-sister to Group One winner Desert Eagle. Emirates Park paid $35,000 for the daughter of Dolphin Street (FR) in foal to American shuttle sire Langfuhr (Can).

Horses from the Kingmaker Park Dispersal sold well, with Lot 68, Lookalike, an unraced colt by Irgun (USA), fetching top price of $40,000, to the bid of Inglis as agent. Last start winner Impregnable (Lot 75), a stakes-winner of more than $150,000, was knocked down to trainer Steve Englebrecht for $30,000.

Next on the Inglis sales agenda is the 2002 Autumn Yearling Sale at the Oaklands complex in Victoria, featuring 456 quality youngsters by such proven and popular sires as: Bellotto (USA) (5), Bluebird (USA)(5), Celtic Swing (GB) (8), Desert Sun (GB) (7), Dolphin Street (FR) (11), El Moxie (USA) (6), Encosta de Lago (6), Export Price (FR) (9), Fraar (USA) (11), Jeune (GB) (7), Jugah (USA) (6), Keltrice (7), Kenny's Best Pal (17), Lacryma Cristi (IRE) (11), Marwina (9), Racer's Edge (23), Rubiton (10), Spartacus (11) and Umatilla (12), etc.
