 25. Danehill colt's residual value impresses Andrew Bowcock

08/04/2002

The residual value as a sire prospect stimulated prominent Hunter Valley studmaster Andrew Bowcock to arrange a syndicate and purchase a well bred, imposing individual by Danehill for $235,000 at last week's Australian Easter yearling sale.

Owner of the Alanbridge Stud in the Segenhoe Valley near Scone, Andrew envisages the Widden Stud reared colt standing alongside the stud's impressive young imported first season sire Beautiful Crown in the future after making his mark at the races.

The youngster is to go in work at Warwick Farm with Clarry Conners and the trainer is so impressed with the son of Danehill he has joined the ownership team, one which also includes NSW Breeders' Association committeeman Russ Lazarus.

The colt has a superb pedigree including being bred on a similar cross to the Danehill Golden Slipper winner and successful sire Flying Spur. The latter is from a mare by Mr Prospector, while the colt's dam Metal of Honor is an American bred daughter of one of the best of the Mr Prospector sires, Conquistador Cielo.

Metal of Honor's dam Badge of Courage is a half-sister to four stakes winners including Group One winners and influential sires Known Fact and Tentam. In addition their half-sister Secrettame went to Mr Prospecfor to produce two other top racehorses and sires, Lion Cavern and Gone West. Lion Cavern visits the Lynden Park Stud at Red Hill South in Victoria.
