 19. Sires Produce Sale - Grand Lodge Tops

07/04/2002

The success of last year's inaugural Sires' Produce Yearling Sale was consolidated at Newmarket on Sunday when 139 yearlings were sold for a gross of $3,440,500 at an average price of $24,752.

Last year the first Sires' Produce Sale realised $3,194,500 when 127 lots sold at an average of $25,200.

Managing Director, Reg Inglis was satisfied with the result, but indicated there was room for improvement.

"There is clearly a good market here for better quality yearlings and vendors who supported the sale with the right type of horse were well rewarded," Inglis said.

"If we can encourage a few more breeders to get behind this sale, there's no reason why it can't go ahead in leaps and bounds."

The top price of $90,000 was paid by agent James Bester for a colt by Grand Lodge from the Marauding mare Koorda, a half sister to several stakes pertformers and the dam of two winners.

Octagonal produced the top priced filly, the first foal of smart winner Primrose Penny, a sister to Group One winner Notoire.

She was purchased by Notoire's trainer Paul Perry for $75,000.
Champion jockey Mick Dittman, who is now buyi9ng actively for Singpoare clients and may soon begin training at Kranji, paid $75,000 for a colt by SNippets from Gala Ball, a city winning half sister to Dancing Dynamite.

It was a good sale for Grand Lodge as he also had a fiully from stakeswinner Angellen sell for $70,000.

Successful owner George Ziade paid $82,500 a colt from stakeswinner Depp Pile by Canny Lad, sire of Saturday's AJC Oaks winner Republic Lass.
