2002 San Miguel William Inglis Sires' Produce Yearling Sale
The success of last year's inaugural Sires' Produce Yearling Sale was consolidated at Newmarket today, when 139 yearlings were sold for a gross of $3,440,500 at an average price of $24,752.
Buyers attended the sale from throughout Australia and New Zealand, including leading bloodstock agents Anton Koolman, Mark Pilkington, James Bester, Ron Dufficy, John Foote, Les Young and popular trainers such as Bede Murray, Paul Perry, Graeme Rogerson, Clarry Conners, John Morish, Pat Farrell, Bill Mitchell, Neil Godbolt, Guy Walter, Rod Craig, Gary Portelli, Steve Englebrecht, Albert Stapleford, Malcolm Johnston, Neville Parnham, etc.
Managing Director, Reg Inglis was satisfied with today's result, but indicated there was room for improvement, "There is clearly a good market here for better quality yearlings and vendors who supported the sale with the right type of horse were well rewarded. If we can encourage a few more breeders to get behind this sale, there's no reason why it can't go ahead in leaps and bounds."
Top priced horse today was Lot 38, a brown colt by Grand Lodge (USA) from the Marauding (NZ) mare Koorda, offered by Riverslea Farm as agent. He was knocked down to James Bester Bloodstock for $90,000.
Octagonal (NZ) produced the top priced filly, Lot 91, the first foal of smart winner Primrose Penny, a sister to Group One winning sprinter Notoire. Paul Perry, the man who prepared Notoire, went to $75,000 to secure the dashing grey filly.
